One more confirmed case was identified today (August 31) for this year’s (2025) indigenous dengue epidemic in Kaohsiung City. The case was a man more than 70 years old in Baoshu Village, Gushan District, showing no symptoms. He is a cohabiting family member of the confirmed case yesterday. The case was confirmed through DOH’s spontaneous extended sampling and examination, and was found to be in the same community cluster. This is the 10th indigenous confirmed case this year, and a total of 4 family clusters have been affected. Since today’s new confirmed case had been active in different areas in Yancheng District during the infectious period, the epidemic control taskforce has implemented emergency preventive measures immediately on the alert zone around his residence and his activity areas. Meanwhile, extended sanitation effort and environmental clean-up were also carried out on Yancheng Market and the booth vending areas. The inter-departmental epidemic control taskforce has continued the epidemic control work in the alert zone today, including eradication of cluttered locations, inspection of breeding grounds, and extended sampling and specimen examination, working all out to prevent spreading of the disease.
Although this is Sunday today, the city government’s inter-departmental team has persisted with the anti-epidemic work in the alert zone, said DOH. This included the District Office’s inspection team requesting the rights holders to clear up 13 listed filthy locations within 24 hours; the cleaning team working in concert to remove discarded items and water-holding containers; the Public Health Centers carrying out extended sampling and specimen examination, hanging up high-efficiency mosquito killer lamps, and spraying mosquito-killing pesticides. Furthermore, bureaus in charge of economic development, education, tourism, mass rapid transit, and parks have also carried out inspection on their areas of jurisdiction. The Gushan District Command Center has also planned to make inter-departmental mobilization for extended environmental sweeping on 4 villages including Baoshu Village.
In regard to these family and community cluster infections in Gushan District, DOH has extended the scope of sampling and examination. Specimen examination has been completed for 444 persons till today. In addition, the epidemic control taskforce has identified 1,079 water-holding containers, of which 343 have bred vector larvae. DOH reminded that owners, users, and managers of all public and private venues should keep stringent environmental management and exercise the due care in maintenance on day-to-day basis pursuant to the Communicable Disease Control Act. If breeding of vector mosquitoes is found, a penalty ticket will be issued immediately and the violator will be fined up to a maximum of NT$15,000.
DOH reiterated that citizens should stay alert; in case of suspected dengue symptoms such as fever, headache, pain behind the eyes, muscle pain, joint pain, bone pain, rashes, and particularly alarm symptoms of a severe case (abdominal pain or tenderness, persistent vomiting, gums or nasal bleeding, drowsiness, restlessness, or changes of consciousness), please seek medical attention at one of the 558 contracted integrated dengue medical care institutions (https://gov.tw/1g1) as soon as possible, and take the initiative to tell the doctor your activity and travel history. Medical care institutions are also advised to stay on guard and put TOCC inquiry into practice when attending to patients. In Gushan District (along Gushan 2nd Road) and its neighboring alert zones including Yancheng District and Zhongdu area in Sanmin District, any suspected cases must be reported immediately to ensure early intervention and preventive measures by the health authority.
